discussing my life away

I'm frustrated at people who say they will give money for my mission trip only to the organization I'm going under. I totally understand because I've had mis-givings in the past about giving money directly to a person going on a mission trip. But the organization is in Ukraine - I don't know what to tell them. I'm in contact with a staff member there about all the logistics and we communicate frequently - but she's not someone to funnel the funds. I feel that it's a silly reason not to give, even while I understand why.

This is part of an e-mail from the staff person at the orphanage who asked us to come in the first-place. She explains a little more about what it's like there:

"There are about 250 kids in state orphanage #4 in Odessa Ukraine.
They are all school aged children, ages 10-18. The kids eat, sleep, study, go to school, and play everything in the orphanage.During the school year they have school classes 6 days a week from about 8:00-2:00. They eat lunch around 2:30 and then have a few hours of free time, which is usually spent watching TV or if the weather is nice sometimes they play outside (boys like soccer a lot). At 5:00 they do homework, 7:00 is diner and then they go to bed. During the summer all of the kids go to a "summer camp", but it really isn't such a great place. They get to go swimming in the Black Sea but that is about it for entertainment.

Life in the orphanage is tough, they have food and clothes and a place to sleep but no one to love them and care about them as individuals. I teach dance and craft classes and try to love the kids as much as I can, but what they really need is a mom and dad and family to love them. Most of the kids in the orphanage are available for adoption or can be soon."

Pray that God will mold me into an empty vessel according to His plans and that He will provide the funds. (and while you're at it - pray for Didlake to get his funds too) :-) -never settle-

Sarah- are you memeber of a church there? If so, would these folks feel comfortable giving the money to your church? (That way they can also get that tax deduction as well). I know that my church has done that for a some folks who have gone on missions trip-even when the group they are going with isn't SBC in origin (southern baptist)

the church i'm going to does not allow you to be a member until you've completed a six week class with them about membership - the class doesn't even start until next week. I know many of the poeple my age and a couple older poeple but I'm not well known yet and not a member yet so I'm unsure of how that would work. I am looking into it though - that's a great suggestion :-) by the way - I miss you Leslie!!
