Forgiveness is the opposite of pride and fear which would self preserve. Forgiveness, instead, is the death of self saying: it is okay that I have been wronged or hurt for my life is in Christ. It often seeks reconciliation regardless of where fault lies.
Thus, forgiveness is not for the faint of heart. Neither is salvation or the Christian walk. All require death of self and that is not very easy.
